Calcium Dicitraconate Disodium Detailed Information

 Calcium Dicitraconate Disodium  Detailed Information

Main Uses and Applications

The core function of calcium disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate CAS 23411-34-9 lies in its powerful ability to chelate metal ions.

Pharmaceutical field: As a heavy metal detoxifying agent, it is used to treat poisoning caused by metals such as lead, cobalt, copper, and manganese. It can combine with these heavy metal ions in the body into stable and soluble complexes, and then be excreted from the body through urine. It is also used in clinical practice to treat hypercalcemia caused by hyperfunction of the parathyroid glands.

Food Industry: Used as chelating agents, preservatives and antioxidants. By chelating the trace metal ions (such as iron and copper) in food, it can effectively prevent food from oxidizing and discoloring, deteriorating, and inhibiting the turbidity of boiled food. It is widely used in beverages, dairy products, canned and bottled foods, such as vegetable cans, seafood cans, salad dressings, etc.

Industry and Others: In chemical research, it is used to eliminate the inhibition of enzyme catalytic reactions caused by trace heavy metals; in water treatment, it can be used for the treatment of heavy metal wastewater; in agriculture, it can be used as a component of trace element fertilizers.

⚠️ Safety and Operating Instructions

Although relatively safe, proper operation still needs to be followed.

Toxicity: The oral LD₅₀ for rats is 10 g/kg. As per regulations, its use is safe. However, excessive consumption may cause vomiting, diarrhea, acute abdominal pain, and may also chelate essential trace elements in the body (such as iron, zinc, and copper).

Hazardousness: It is irritating to the skin and eyes, and may cause irritation to the respiratory tract.

Personal protection: During operation, appropriate protective gloves and goggles should be worn to prevent the formation of dust and inhalation. The operation should be carried out in a well-ventilated environment.

Storage conditions: This substance is hygroscopic. It is recommended to store it in a sealed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place. Some suggest storing it at 2-8°C.

?? Supplementary Information

Production method: Usually, it is prepared by reacting disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate with calcium carbonate (or natural shells).

Pharmacological action: The oral absorption rate is very low (about 4%-5%), so oral administration is ineffective. It needs to be administered by intramuscular injection or intravenous drip. The half-life after intravenous injection is relatively short (20-60 minutes).
